Côte d’Azur with Andrea Mongenie: The Value of the Unhurried Conversation

Last Wednesday, we brought together a curated circle of collectors and private guests for a special lunch at Château de la Chèvre d’Or in Èze, alongside our Paris-based artist Andrea Mongenie. It is hard to imagine a more fitting setting for this conversation. The South of France has historically shaped the trajectories of so many artists, and for Andrea, the landscape is deeply personal – rooted in childhood summers where endless days and quiet hours of isolation eventually turned into her earliest drawings.

The true value of the afternoon lay entirely in the nature of the gathering. Free from the constraints of a formal presentation or a structured gallery talk, the intimate environment allowed for a completely genuine exchange. The guests were there to listen, to ask real questions, and to truly understand the intellect and intention.

Sitting together, Andrea spoke candidly about her evolution from a rigorous academic training in portraiture into full abstraction. She reframed this shift not as a departure from classical skill, but as a deliberate path toward freedom – a way to loosen control, channel the profound shifts of motherhood, and entirely rebuild a sense of personal identity through paint.

While collectors naturally evaluate provenance, market context, and value, an entirely different layer opens up when an exceptional artist is sitting directly across the table from you. In that environment, you move past the physical canvas itself and begin to comprehend the living context behind the brushstrokes, the specific choices made at the easel, and the life that continues to shape the work.

This is exactly the space we aim to create. The conversation didn’t just hover around the art; it flowed directly through it. For a few hours in Èze, the standard boundaries between the artwork, the creator, and the collector dissolved, leaving behind a meaningful, lasting connection.
