Holding Form: Melina Shukuroglou at The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Limassol

This October, CANVAS opened Holding Form, a new exhibition by Cyprus-based artist Melina Shukuroglou at The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Limassol, in collaboration with Marfields Group.

The project marks the fourth chapter in CANVAS’s ongoing cultural programme at the Residences. Each edition introduces a different artist and body of work into the space, creating an opportunity for residents to encounter contemporary art as part of the environment in which they live.

For Holding Form, CANVAS brought together two strands of Melina Shukuroglou’s practice: her sculptural ceramics and a selection of three-dimensional epoxy resin Cells.

Objects are central to Melina Shukuroglou’s work – how they are made, used, kept and transformed over time. Her ceramic works combine locally sourced clay, glaze and vintage elements collected over the years, including fragments of frosted glass. Familiar vessel forms remain visible, but their original function has shifted into something more sculptural.

The Cells approach form differently. Their contained, repeated structures move towards something more elemental, creating a dialogue with the ceramics around material, repetition, fragility and transformation.

Melina Shukuroglou studied at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C. and has exhibited internationally throughout her career. In 2006, she represented Cyprus at the 10th Cairo Biennale, where the Cyprus presentation received the Best National Participation / Best Pavilion Award.

Following its opening in October, Holding Form continues to be presented exclusively to residents of The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Limassol until 15 November 2026.

Selected works from the exhibition are available for acquisition through the Holding Form digital catalogue: HOLDING FORM | Melina Shukuroglou
