Nordic fair CHART

While many institutions are starting to recognise historically underrepresented women artists, the leading Nordic fair CHART (www.chartartfair.com/) has taken a step further and is showcasing solely female artists in this year’s edition.

The unique challenges coming from the current global health crisis have presented an opportunity for the old foundations to be shaken up. By exhibiting 100% women artists, CHART aims to highlight a major structural challenge in the market. At the same time, it is enhancing a new format that will combine physical exhibitions and online activities with the aim of re-starting the Nordics art scene.

“This particular moment in time is an opportunity to re-imagine the art scene we want for the future. Gender imbalance is one of the biggest structural challenges on the art scene and in the art market. We understand that no one can solve this challenge alone, but collectively we can push for awareness and insights to inspire us all to think and act differently.” – Nanna Hjortenberg, CHART Director.

The fair has launched on the Artsy.net on the 19th of August and will also take place during the weekend of 28 – 30 August at the 28 participating galleries across the five Nordic capital cities.

The key question to ask is will the rest of the industry be fast to pick up on the initiative?
